Another Surrey Business Hit In Extortion-Related Shooting

Swift News

A business in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood was shot at overnight Tuesday (Jan. 20) in what is believed to be another extortion-related shooting.  Surrey Police responded to a call of a shooting in the 7200-block of King George Boulevard around 4:30 a.m. Police found that a business and several vehicles had been damaged by gunfire. As the business was unoccupied at the time of the shooting, there are no reported injuries, police said.  The Surrey Police major crime section is investigating the shooting, and although it is in its early stages, “it appears that this incident is related to the ongoing series of extortions in Surrey,” noted a Surrey Police news release Tuesday (Jan. 20).

According to the latest Surrey Police Service numbers, reported Monday (Jan. 19), there have been 34 reported extortions, seven extortion-related shots-fired incidents, and 21 extortion-related victims (16 repeat victims) so far in Surrey in 2026.  Including, Tuesday’s shooting (Jan. 20), there have been four extortion-related shootings in Surrey this past week. One on Jan. 15 at home in Panorama Ridge, one Jan. 17 at a home in Bear Creek Park and another at a business in East Cloverdale on Monday (Jan. 19).  Police are also investigating an overnight shooting that took place in a highrise apartment overnight Monday (Jan. 19). Investigators say it is too early to determine the motive of the shooting.  Homicide investigators were also called out to Surrey twice last week to investigate the unrelated deaths of two men.
