Surrey Police Service officials say reports of shots fired in South Surrey late Monday (Feb. 9) night sparked a swift response to the area of 160 Street and 12 Avenue, however, officers were unable to locate any sign of a crime. “There was no victims, there was no evidence to say that there was a shooting. We couldn’t even find a scene,” Sgt. Tige Pollock said Tuesday. “At this time, there’s no confirmed shooting in South Surrey/White Rock last night.”
Pollock said police received the report at around 10:45 p.m. Commenters on the White Rock & South Surrey Community Group Facebook reported hearing between three and six gun-shot sounds, followed by the sound of a fast-moving vehicle. Sirens were heard soon after. Pollock reiterated police “flooded” the area in response, but found nothing amiss. “We’re hoping it’s fireworks,” he said of the reported noise. “We do get that a lot. “Unless somebody sees something today or calls us, I think that’s probably the end of the investigation.” The SPS non-emergency line is 604-599-0502.
