Dashcam Footage Shows Motorcyclist Shoving British Columbia Cyclist To The Curb, Arrest Made

A Nanaimo motorcyclist will face charges for allegedly shoving a cyclist.

A 48-year-old from Nanaimo has been charged with assault and dangerous driving, stemming from an incident on Aug. 2 in which a cyclist was shoved from behind by a motorcyclist near the intersection of Departure Bay Road and Granite Park Road. The incident was captured in its entirety by dash cam video from a passing vehicle.

After being shoved, the cyclist lost control of his bike collided with the curb and crashed, causing non life-threatening injuries that required medical treatment.  

The motorcyclist did not stop, a Nanaimo RCMP press release noted.

The dash cam video was posted on various social media platforms and garnered significant attention.  

“The resulting attention by local media and the public after viewing and posting the video of the incident, was extremely useful as it allowed the investigation to move forward and for police to identify the suspect, “said reserve Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesperson, in the release.

The motorcyclist's first court appearance is set for Tuesday, Oct. 7, in provincial court in Nanaimo.
